EXA is an immersive environment for composing your own music, recording loops of your performed notes and motions, designing custom instruments, performing for audiences, building up virtual bands, and more. Step into EXA and experience an entirely new dimension of musical creativity! Your creative process begins with EXA’s musical shapes, which are called “ringers”. Ringers make sound when you hit or touch them using EXA’s performance tools, like a mallet or violin bow. You can change the sound and pitch of each ringer to whatever you’d like. Once you’ve arranged some ringers into an instrument (for example, a curved piano) you can group those ringers together, and even save them as a “bundle” for re-use elsewhere. EXA offers incredible flexibility for designing entirely new and “impossible” musical instruments. You’re free to break away from traditional instrument structures, and instead create instruments that are perfectly suited to the way you want to move, the notes you want to play, and the musical performance you want to compose. Recording and playing loops is at the heart of EXA’s music-making experience. As you record a loop, EXA captures the notes you play and the motions you make while performing. Then, whenever you play the recorded loop, you'll see (optionally) a “robot” performer repeating the exact motions that you did. You can play several loops at the same time, and choose when they start and stop. To help automate this, EXA provides powerful “sequencer” and “section” interfaces. By linking or arranging loops within these interfaces, you can tell EXA when each loop should play, and build up entire songs! There’s so much to explore in EXA, and it opens up so many new possibilities for music and performance.
